YSR launches Indiramma scheme

WEST KANDRIGA (East Godavari): This tiny village in East Godavari district was named `Indiramma Gramam' to mark the launching of the State Government's prestigious scheme `Indiramma Pathakam' by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday April 1st 2006. The scheme is intended to provide basic amenities to one-third of villages and one-third of wards in the urban areas.
As a matter of thanksgiving to the people of East Godavari district, who gave hospitality to Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for more than a week when he was sick during his `padayatra' in the past, the Chief Minister launched the prestigious scheme at this village, which is 10 km from Kapileswarapuram mandal headquarters in East Godavari. Most of the State Government's schemes or Congress programmes had been launched from Chevella in Rangareddy district in the past.
Addressing a public meeting after the launching the scheme, Dr. Reddy said: "We are ready to beg or borrow to provide housing with all basic amenities for the people living below the poverty line in the next three years. We have decided to spend Rs. 9000 crores every year on this scheme.

Making a special mention about Rajahmundry MP Vndavalli Aruna Kumar, the Chief Minister said that the name of this scheme was coined by Mr. Aruna Kumar and they thought it was appropriate to name the scheme after great leader Indira Gandhi, who dreamt about a Welfare State.
Explaining the new scheme, the Chief Minister said that 18.13 lakh houses would be constructed this year in one-third of selected villages and wards and 9 lakh pensions would be distributed besides providing free power to 7 lakh houses. Under this scheme 28 lakh households would get individual sanitary latrines. "There will be no partisan attitude in selecting beneficiaries like in TDP regime.
He said irrigation project works in three regions had been accelerated and the Government was committed to completing these projects in the next three years. He made a special mention about women, and said that the State Government was more concerned about their financial status. The Chief Minister distributed pension for widows, challenged persons and weavers.

Review meeting on the Indiramma housing project, conducted by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Tuesday decided that the pattern of construction of ground plus three floors under all the urban housing programmes should not be insisted upon and that ground plus two floors could be permitted wherever required.
The meeting decided that 20,019 houses sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad area would be grounded immediately and be completed by the end of this year. As many as 52,000 applications were received under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa Programme in MCH area, out of which bank clearance had been obtained for 14,395 cases so far.
Verification of all the applications would be taken up immediately and houses would be constructed for those found eligible along with bank clearance. The verification process would be completed by September 15, 2006.
